Improving your Linguistic powers does not necessarily mean getting an iron-firm grasp on your language. You do not need to be a master of literature or a politician. Remember the key is to communicate your ideas clearly, effectively and to sway your audience in your direction. There is no use in speaking perfect Mandarin to a small group of elderly citizens in a small rural town in China, that uses dialects anyway. There are combination of key attributes you need to pay attention to in order to sharpen your Linguistic Mind. Here we present to you what we like to call the 7 Laws Of The Linguistic Mind.
1) Open your Eyes & Ears This is a key attribute of NLP hynotherapists & politicians. They are sensitive to how others speak as well as subtle changes in language patterns. Verbal or otherwise. The very first rule is to pay close attention to your audience and know about what interests them to give them enough reason in the first place to listen to you. Know when to speak & when to listen and observe. And when you do remember to speak in their language. You have a better chance at selling to a hungry crowd of buyers than strollers.
2) Persuade & Sell The expert salesperson will absolutely have this skill refined tenfold. There are many ways to persuade and influence your audience towards your direction. First is to sell yourself. The salesperson would probably offer a free voucher as a gift token first, to exploit the fact that humans by nature are compelled to return kind favours. They they go on to state on how limited the offer is: To provoke a sense of rarity in their product and make the potential buyer feel like he/she just found the jackpot. All this with professional fluid speech & persuasive language would give you powerful persuasion skills.
3) Argue & Impact This is probably the anti-version of the second law. Being able to argue effectively can purge your conscious mind from entering a passive state when someone is trying to persuade or sell you something. Bluffs like saying you just saw that same product at a cheaper price from a nearby store can put a salesperson off their feet. It can expand your mind into being able to be more critical & anaytical in generating its own points of view. However it is oftentimes more important to have this skill when you want to convince a stubborn individual towards a more rational view.
4) Emotion In just about any presentation you are about to give mixing in the correct words & gestures to invoke feeling in your audience/the other person is absolutely vital. This creates a kind of bonding between you and your audience, thus making them feel you have been in their shoes & understand their situation. Breaking the touch barrier is another technique to create the bonding. This is a key component in communicating new ideas.
5) Use tools at your disposal If you can dress the part, do it. Business workers put on fine suits to project a professional image when selling their products/ideas. The first impression you make is important even during job interviews. When salespeople advertise their product they would sometimes give a demonstration or even a free sample. Technology such as the Internet can be used to farm for new information & study the competition while you present your own ideas. Tools can be used to make people gravitate towards you and hear what you have to say.
6) Pounce on the Opportunity Opportunities can be far and few in between. Therefore whenever it comes your way, whether it is a chance to learn new things or to communicate your story, go out and seize the day before it passes by.
7) Personal Log Adopting this famous practice can bring great benefits to an individual. The log can be a simple journal on paperback or a blog on your laptop, and can be in the form of written, audio/video/images or a mix. Having a personal log can allow you to track your own progress in your daily routines & preserve special moments and triumphs in your life.
