Getting Ready for Long Term Care Insurance

Battling with old age is arduous as your body weakens and your mind deteriorates. You won't be able to perform activities like normal adults, and you are dealing with death every time you digress all the things that are happening to you now. Another thing that makes you uncomfortable is the cost of care that can instantly sweep out your finances, no matter how hard you try to skimp on the expenses. Even the short term nursing home stay can rip your assets, so what's more if you need this for several years?

One way to keep your assets or savings from becoming exhausted is to buy long term care insurance. Whether to buy long term care insurance or not has been an issue for many American seniors since many are in denial that they would need long term care in the future. For elders in their 50s or 60s, buying LTCi policy is an important aspect of retirement planning, especially if they have relatives who have suffered a lot from financing their own care.

Getting long term insurance should not be done hastily and without tact. It could be the most expensive investment you are going to take, so it requires proper planning and time. Here are the things that you should look for in LTC policies:

Compare Policies - The price, type of coverage, and features vary from company to company. Before you sign up for coverage with a certain company, make sure to inquire from different companies about their policies and then choose the one that offers the best for your needs. Always compare the rates and coverage offered by the companies in your area. A good policy first-look features wherein you can return the policy within 30 days and it is renewable.

Assess your needs and the type of coverage you'll need - Long term care policies have no fixed cost because the coverage depends from person to person and the rates of nursing homes vary from city to city. It would be better to canvass the costs of the local nursing homes or assisted living facilities for you to know how much coverage you will need. You can also ask referrals and feedbacks from friends or relatives who have had experience buying LTC.

Hedge with Inflation Protection - This added protection is advisable for policyholders in their 50s or 60s. What inflation protection is all about? The rates of nursing homes normally increase every year;so if nursing home soars to 5% per year, then a day in nursing home could cost $500 or more in 20 years. If you have inflation protection, your benefits increase to compensate with the inflation rate but the cost of the premiums remains the same.

Choose the best benefit period - You are given choices for the benefit period -- the period of time the policy pays out. You may choose from a certain number of years to lifetime coverage, depending on your needs and budget.

However, you should be careful and tactful in choosing the benefit period because increasing the benefit period to few more years or lifetime coverage can double or even triple your yearly premium. You should consider how long you will likely stay in nursing home to save on the premiums. The average nursing home stay in United States is two years, but people with history of chronic illnesses such as Alzheimer's or dementia should opt for longer benefit period.

Simple Exercise to Build Your Self Esteem

The simplest exercise to build your self-esteem is a physical exercise. A person with good health and strong body has a very high potential and energy for achievements. If your body is broke and you do not like what you see in the mirror - no affirmation will help you. Only a direct action upon your body excellence will increase your self respect and confidence.

One of the reasons we sometimes feel depressed is a stress we get over and over again on the daily basis. Problems at work, with family and friends, personal problems combine together to make us feel disappointed in life. Physical exercises can help us.

During the trainings, our brain actively produces such called endorphins, which are the hormones of happiness. These hormones are in charge of our excitement of the outer world. The more our brain produces these hormones the happier we feel. By the influence of endorphins any stress and disappointment goes away and life again appears in bright colors.

Another reason to begin physical activity is to increase metabolism and get rid of excess fat. If you have some excess fat you will also feel uncomfortable and unconfident. It is hard for overweight people to do different tasks, to find good fitting clothes. Once you get rid of excess fat you get rid of these problems. Physical training and appropriate diet can easily release you from the fat prison.

My advice in physical activity is two or three workouts per week in the gym and 10-15 minutes exercise daily. Easy morning exercises will help you wake up more quickly, charge your body with energy and your brain with positive thoughts. These exercises are absolutely necessary for those who work in the office and lack the movement.

The workout in the gym will form your body and keep it in good shape all your life. There will be no reason for you to feel ashamed every time you undress on the beach or in front of your partner. You will always know that you are perfectly looking and you will feel the same too.

Do not wait, think or procrastinate. Make a commitment to become excellent in everything you do and make the decision to look perfect. Start exercising, find a good gym and a personal trainer. Believe me that it is totally worth it.

Online Gaming Communities to Mend International Relations

Today we see the OLPC or One Laptop Per Child program help bring emerging nations into the 21st Century and children can communicate with one another from other nations, they can work together and collaborate using computers to do projects and group thinking. This is a wonderful thing indeed, then there are international blogging groups where bloggers from around the world communicate and discuss things. We also see how sporting events like the Olympics and Soccer have united the world, and let's not forget the Space Program too.

Still, it makes sense to continue to unite the world and ditch the misunderstanding involved in the vast differences in culture, religions and customs. Another way we can do this is through online gaming communities that use networks that go worldwide so that the players can work in teams and even compete against each other, thus building camaraderie too. Luckily, this is already taking place and many computer gamers are linked up and participating in online gaming, with folks not just in their own nations, but half way around the globe.

This new trend and the availability of high speed networks and internet is making it all possible, and the speeds are similar to being in the next room and on the same network, imagine the future possibilities for peace, all through something as simple and fun as online gaming. Recently, the Online Think Tank noted the speeds and increasing ability of international internet networking, mostly due to online trading, where everything happens instantaneously. Nevertheless, borrowing these ultra fast systems, means ultra fact communication in gaming and perhaps the ultimate in new way to unite the world.

Measure for Measure

Can you imagine playing hockey without a goal? Basketball without hoops and nets? Football without a goal line? Golfing without holes or greens?

There may be leagues where it doesn't matter whether anyone is keeping score, but not the big leagues. Champions of the Super Bowl, the Stanley Cup, the Masters can only be determined when there is someone keeping score.

In hockey, keeping score means counting the number of times the puck gets into the net. In golf, keeping score means counting the number of strokes one takes over a defined course.

Keeping score means identifying objectives and giving points to those who achieve them. Why is it that so many businesses do not, or will not, keep score when it comes to spending money on advertising? In a recent edition of Advertising Age a survey indicated that nearly 70% of all businesses do not measure the results of their advertising efforts. Could this be a contributing factor in why so many fledgling businesses fail in their first five years?

MEASUREMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY

One reason companies may not measure the return on investment for their ad dollars is simply that they do not believe it is possible. Measurement is a must if there is ever to be accountability or management of an advertising and marketing program. As they say, you can't manage what you don't measure.

Granted, it's not always easy to measure results from many promotional activities. That doesn't mean we are exempt from making the effort. Choosing not to measure is the same as playing cards in a pitch black room with the lights out. Let there be light!

While it may be difficult to measure the results of a specific press release, for example, you can to some degree measure how many magazines, radio stations and newspapers pick up that release. You then make a mental note and begin building a benchmark. From a documented sequence of experiences you can begin to learn what works and what doesn't when it comes to getting publicity.

HOW MUCH DO YOUR LEADS COST?

The first step is deciding what needs to be measured, and then to set up systems for measuring them. For example, if I spend ten thousand dollars for an ad or ads, how many leads will it generate? By leads I am referring to prospects who take initiative to contact the company.

To capture this number you may need to set up a toll free order number specifically designated for in-coming leads. Or you may use coupons that you later count when mailed in or redeemed. If doing direct mail, you may use a postage paid card or return envelope. Internet marketers have created all manner of cybersystems for tracking responses to e-mail campaigns, banner ads and the like. Whatever the medium, the common denominator is the ability to measure response.

I haven't always thought this way. My first experiences in advertising were haphazard and intuitive. It wasn't until I read David Ogilvy in 1986 that I learned that there's a better way. Ogilvy in turn, tips his hat to Claude Hopkins, a revolutionary ad copywriter and pioneer who set down his principles of advertising in a volume called "Scientific Advertising."

In the fifty years since Hopkins, studies have been made of nearly every variable in advertising. For example, it has been determined that five times as many people read a headline as the body copy of an ad. Does your headline, therefore, make a promise? Does it entice readers to follow through? Or is it only clever and meaningless? Here's another example. An ad in reverse type, especially fine print, will be read by fewer people than normal black on white. It may look cool from a design perspective, but is your objective to look cool or to communicate a message?

Analysis has shown which are the most powerful words to use in headlines, the most persuasive phrases and whether color is valuable or a waste. But ultimately, until you begin measuring for yourself you will never be certain what works and what doesn't.

While doing a direct mail campaign for The Chromaline Corporation in the late 80's I designed a three panel self mailer with a tear off bounceback card on it. We printed three versions of the mailer, each version identical except the offer. One mailer offered two for the price of one, another ten dollars off, and the third buy one get one free. Before mailing it I walked around the office and took votes on which version would bring the most response. To my surprise, the version with the least votes brought the best returns, a vivid example of the value of testing and measuring.

Keep in mind that you might have the right message but in the wrong magazine. You will never know unless you measure and test.

THE NEXT LEVEL

Keep in mind that getting the maximum number of leads is not necessarily the best goal. If you gather a truck load of poor quality leads you will end up with discouraged salespeople who feel they are wasting their time in follow up. The objective, it seems logical to assert, is to find a way to obtain high quality leads with the greatest likelihood of conversion to customers.

If able, you should make every effort to measure how many leads become customers. This may be difficult in some circumstances, but by a determined effort it is possible in most situations to gain a sense of this even if it only by noting the number of complaints that come from your sales team.

To increase lead quantity you need to give people a reason to respond, a reason to pick up the phone. The Dominoes Pizza coupons I get have an expiration date that urges me to use them or lose them. At AMSOIL we offer a free catalog or literature related to the products we are promoting.

To improve lead quality you may need to create barriers to response. Some companies ask prospects to place a stamp on the card they mail back. The reasoning is that if a potential customer won't spend thirty-seven cents for more information, they are not likely to spend thirty-seven dollars for the gizmo.

Claude Hopkins was a strong opponent of free samples. Samples often demean value and ruin sales instead of generate them. While at Chromaline, on the other hand, we used to sell our samples. In addition, we followed up with phone calls to began the relationship building process. The customer was suddenly accountable. He or she was told that we would follow up and see how the product worked for them. It was highly effective.

SUMMING UP

Ultimately, you can't do the numbers unless you have the numbers. How much does it cost to get the leads? How many leads? How many of those leads become sales? How much is the average sale? If you know what the average purchase generates, and you know your profit margins, then you begin to get a picture of which ad activities are profitable and which are wasteful.

The key to success, whether a large business, small business or even a non-profit organization looking for new members, is to do more of what works and less of what doesn't. It's really not that complicated. And when it's working, it can be downright fun. But you will never know until you measure.

Low Cost Internet Providers - Finding the Best Deals

You don't have to spend a lot of money by hooking up with broadband to be online because you can find reliable low costs Internet providers these days. These providers offer different features and different degrees of reliability and down time.

It would be smart to think about more than the cost when you sign up with low cost Internet providers. This is because some factors will make your online experience fun, while others will only leave you frustrated.

I can still recall when Netzero was free just a few years ago. I felt a bit disappointed when they began to charge for their service. Maybe they were running strictly on advertising dollars or their free model did not work. You can get Netzero for about ten dollars a month nowadays.

You have to know what you are getting for your price when you sign up for low cost Internet providers. You can see what other customers have to say about Internet providers on online reviews. These reviews may be able to help you come up with a decision.

The majority of low cost Internet providers are dial up companies. I'm sure that you won't go back to dial up once you switch to broadband. However, a lot of people have to put up with dial up because they cannot afford broadband. If you have no other choice but to use dialup, then you have to sign up to the right company.

Slow downloads and spotty service are the biggest downsides of dial up service. You also have to worry about being able to get connected with many low cost Internet providers. Being able to connect to the Internet isn't the only problem with some low cost Internet providers, because you also want to stay online. Avoid companies that bump their consumers off the web all the time.

There are all sorts of low cost Internet providers available these days, so you have to make sure that you choose the best one. Find providers that have a lot of access numbers that are not busy on a continual basis. Good providers offer tech support if you should run into a problem. Try a few trials of low cost Internet providers until you find the right one. Being sure that you get a good price on a good product is always worth the time and effort.

How To Make Sure Your Pregnancy Is Healthy

Keeping healthy during pregnancy can be accomplished in a number of ways. Most of the ideas that follow are not hard to implement, so have a look.

Before you retire to bed each night, take the time to do some stretching. Leg cramps are common during pregnancy because of weight gain. Having a good stretch before bedtime will relax your muscles and help reduce the chances of cramping during the night. This will help you to sleep soundly all night long!

You must exercise regularly during pregnancy. Light to moderate exercise, that does not overly stress your body, can help you have a shorter labor and lose your baby weight quickly after delivery.

Staying relaxed and as stress-free as possible during pregnancy is essential. Not only does stress trigger a wide range of health issues in a pregnant woman, but stress also affects the baby in the womb. If some cases, large amounts of stress could make the baby come out too soon.

Human skin can stretch a lot, but only so far. It's perfectly normal for your belly to become itchy as it expands. Avoid taking a hot shower or bath to try to soothe your skin. Hot water leeches oils from the skin, leaving it itchy and dry. See to it that you moisturize using something heavy like petroleum jelly or cocoa butter. Choose loose fitting clothing made of soft fabrics and stop scratching!

This will keep your body's weight under control and your health in check. It is, of course, important not to over-do the exercise. You need to make sure to stay in shape during your pregnancy because this will help you lower your risk of a miscarriage and also overall help to reduce labor complications.

Ask your doctor about your condition before you travel, while you're pregnant. Make sure you bring all of your medical records along with you, in case something might happen.

Swelling is often an inevitable part of pregnancy, but it can be dealt with. Attempt to minimize your salt intake.

Build up a bedtime routine to help improve your sleep while pregnant. If you can follow a consistent bedtime routine, then your body will learn that bedtime is near. This should ease the process of falling asleep. Try shoulder massages, warm showers, or reading short stories before bed.

Make sure you eat before you head out to buy your groceries. Cravings for unhealthy foods will occur frequently during your pregnancy. An occasional treat is perfectly fine, but your daily menu should be packed with nutritious foods that promote the health of your baby and keep you feeling great. If you go grocery shopping when full, you'll be less likely to purchase anything outside of your list.

When you are pregnant, you should give your body support, when you are sleeping. You can find various body pillows specifically designed for those who are pregnant at a number of stores. A regular pillow can be used for support if you don't have a pregnancy pillow. Try to sleep with a pillow beneath your knees and one beneath your stomach.

A pregnancy journal is a wonderful way to commemorate your pregnancy and all of the wonderful things that happen when you are expecting. The gift of a pregnancy journal can be just as special to your child. In this journal you can write down every thought you may have regarding your pregnancy, and even your hopes and dreams for your child. It will be a wonderful present for your child in the future.

Don't overeat when you are pregnant in order to not have to try to lose a lot of weight once your baby is born. You should not double your calorie intake! You should eat an extra 300 calories a day for the last six months of the pregnancy to allow your baby to grow.

When you are pregnant, you should consider taking an HIV test. Even if you don't think it's possible the worst can happen, so it's best to know before your baby is born so you can ensure they have the best chance of being healthy. It will also allow you to seek out medical professionals who are knowledgeable about HIV.

As you experience the constant changes your body goes through while pregnant, consider archiving your stomach in photographs. Once your baby is born, your pregnancy will soon be forgotten, so it's worth having pictures as a reminder of those nine glorious months.

Ask your partner to eat healthier with you; this will give you some support. Doing this as a team will make the changes easier on you and lead to less stress in your relationship down the road.

Snoring may increase during your pregnancy. Nasal membranes swell during pregnancy. If you're snoring so much that your partner can't sleep, try using nasal strips so that your airways are opened up. You may also want to pick up a pair of ear plugs that your partner can wear, to help them get a better night's sleep.

Learn how to track your cycles if you are trying to conceive. By finding out when you are ovulating, you can increase your odds of becoming pregnant. It can help you figure out when you became pregnant so that you have a due date that's more accurate.

The shade of the line on your pregnancy test does not determine how strong your pregnancy is. If you see that the line is faint, it still means that you are or are not pregnant. It does not show anything else. The appearance of the line, any line at all, is a determiner of pregnancy.

If you read through and apply the ideas in the preceding paragraphs, then you and your child can easily waltz through pregnancy with ease and grace. It is obvious from these simple tips that so long as you take good care of yourself and baby during this time, it can be one of the most enjoyable periods of your life.

A Fantastic Start to the Cricket Season - Play Fantasy Cricket Within Your Cricket Club

The classic sound of leather on willow will soon blend into the buzz of the summer season once more. Now is the time to plan a fantastic start to the new cricket season! Typically cricket matches take place once a week and provide a great opportunity to catch up with all your cricket mates and supporters at the cricket club. However a new way to encourage player interaction and plenty of banter even during non-match days is to go social online by creating a Club Fantasy Cricket League. Sports social networking site tourlegends offers a free application which enables cricket fans & players to create and manage a fantasy cricket league within their club or amongst friends.

Similar to the Leagues related to the IPL, players are assigned a value between 1 and 10 (10 = the better player). A player's value is based on the ability of the player to score points through 'real-life' bowling, batting and fielding performances. Cricket club members then select their fantasy eleven from the list and compete against each other to see who was able to pick the most successful team.

To award points the league creator inputs the 'real life' performances of players into tourlegends which then automatically calculates how many points each player has scored, updates teams with the appropriate points and refreshes league tables. In addition the application calculates the bowling and batting averages as well as the total number of catches, maidens, ducks and stumpings by player and by team. The latter is useful if you've got players from multiple cricket teams in the same league and it will give the statistics anoraks a nice breather!

The application also allows for players to exchange banter with each other on the league competition message board as well as to send virtual trophies and gifts to weekly/monthly winners and overall champions. To add additional spice to the League, players can be asked to pay to play with some or all of the takings going towards the prize money, club or charity fundraiser.

To keep up the momentum throughout the cricket season, the league organiser should arrange transfer windows during which players can be swopped in and out of the fantasy cricket teams. The application makes it very easy to manage transfer windows: the league organiser simply selects a date range and sets the maximum number of players that can be swopped.

The start of the cricket season is clearly the best time to get a Club fantasy cricket league started, so with the Southern Hemisphere gearing up for cricket action let's get the banter going both on the pitch and online!

Seniors - A Shocking Reconsideration of the Golden Years

Most people have a pretty basic life plan. Get a good job, work hard, raise a family, put the kids through college and then retire and enjoy the golden years. A perfect storm of events should be causing seniors and soon to be seniors to reconsider their golden years.

The foremost issue that is confronting us all, not just seniors, is the current economic mess. An economy that was built on the idea of continual purchasing was a house of cards and apt to fall one day. Today is that day. The bad news, of course, is this economic pull back is going to reset the way we think about building wealth. The question for many seniors and soon to be seniors is whether it is too late for them.

The two financial areas of the great concern tend to be home values and retirement accounts. As well all know, home values have dropped off a cliff and there is no sign of things improving in 2009. This loss of value has been particularly tough because many people have converted their homes into their savings account. They paid down mortgages and used appreciation to create a nest egg for the golden years. Many used equity lines of credit to tap this. Regardless, the loss of value in homes has turned many a nest egg into so many empty shells. The latest reports from the National Realtors Association suggest that one in 10 homeowners may be late or defaulting on loan payments. That is a huge number.

The situation with retirement accounts is not much better. With home prices falling and banks failing, the stock market has taken a beating. Being down 30 to 60 percent is not unusual, but it is a huge number for seniors or those who plan on retiring in the next few years. Most were planning to live off their retirement fund investments, but the amount they expected to collect each month has gone down significantly.

So, what does the future hold for those entering or already in their golden years? Each situation is obviously different, but there has to be some serious concern. Housing and the stock market will bounce back, but when and how fast? Most people believe 2009 is going to be worse than 2008. The trend of pain could continue for some time. Remember, it took World War II to really end the first Great Depression. For many seniors, it is time to bunker down again until things play out.

The Art of Meaningful Conversation

The degree of meaning and fulfillment you experience in your life is a direct result of your level of engagement and conversation with the world around you and with yourself.

The poet David Whyte tells us there are three key courageous conversations to engage in on a regular basis: the conversation with your work, with others, and with yourself. He suggests being in daily disciplined relationship or conversation with your work to ensure that it is not too small or limiting for you. This entails being attentive to your work, mindful, and fully engaged in what you are doing, so that you will notice if your work brings out the best in you, and if it is using the best of your talents in the service of a greater good.

Dialogue with others is becoming a missing art. If you are in business, engaging in thoughtful and stimulating conversations will enliven you and attract people who want to be around you. It's the mark of a true leader. People love doing business with people they trust and connect with on an emotional level. This can only happen through conversation and making time for the more "human moments".

Conversations in your personal life sustain the relationships with your partner, children, relatives, and friends. Without those conversations, we lose the deep connection over time. In the midst of our busy lives, remembering to make the time for what is truly important, and carving out personal time as a high priority, will enliven our relationships.

There is deep value in having daily conversations with yourself to reflect on how you are living and working, to witness your thoughts, and to learn from daily lessons. Taking time to listen to the still small voice of your intuition and soul will guide you in the next right action to take. In the busyness of our modern world, our inner voice is often drowned out by the constant noise, unless we take the time to be silent and listen.

Put yourself in conversation with the outer edges of your existence - the frontier territories that beckon to you to listen. Your soul thrives on these conversations. Make time in your busy life to open the curtain to this vast world that you most often fail to notice.

Have the courage to create a meaningful life by forming an intention to be in dialogue with your inner and outer worlds on a regular basis.

There are many conversations to have on a regular basis in order to live a truly fulfilling life. Make time to have regular and sustained conversations with:

- self

- work

- others

- nature

- inner wisdom; intuition

- the universal energy, divine life force, sacred mystery, great mother, God - whatever name you use for something larger outside of yourself.

Meaningful conversation with your work would let you know on a daily basis if the work you are doing fully engages your heart and soul. Does it bring you more alive, or deaden your senses? Do you come home from work enthusiastic or exhausted? Are you using the best of your talents in your work?

In your personal and family relationships, what courageous conversations do you need to initiate? What is the cost to you and others of not having those conversations?

You can engage in conversation with yourself through silent reflection, journaling, listening to your intuition, any creative pursuit - even through dancing and movement. Five or ten minutes a day intentionally connection with your inner self can go a long way to re-establishing this inner connection.

Take out your journal, and write your answers to these questions:

- What would it take for me to "fall in love with my future" in each of the three areas of self, work, and other relationships?

- What steps do I need to take to feel more connected to myself and the world around me?

- What do I need to change to be doing worthwhile, creative work that uses the best of my strengths and talents daily? What changes can I make in my current work to bring alive the best of myself?

How to Attain the Best Interest Rates

Because of the fact the world is always on the threat of an economic meltdown, you must secure your future very well especially if you are an IRA account holder. Now, your main goal must be to find the best interest rates.

If you are into a long term savings plan, it would be very hard for you to estimate the traditional IRA's final outcome. The market trends and rates can differ which leave your investments with growth rates that are so unpredictable. These rates will always rise and fall which will also depend on several occurrences. There are also options on IRA which will freely permit certain investors to have superior management over all their earnings. These can absolutely be the key to draw the benefits of both fixed and variable rates. Each of these two has their very own incentive and the decision regarding the manner of how the rates will pan out will be left to the hands of the investor.

Actually, there are lots of options with regard to the IRA that will permit the savers to be certain in a definite interest rate for a given time. This is very beneficial for IRA account holders who can predict a drop of IRA interest rates. Aside from that, this is also advantageous for those who want to have higher interest rates on their savings plan that is for a long term.

With regard to the desires of the specific investor, the time deposit option will last. This can have negative and positive effects because of the fact that predictions made by experts cannot assure accuracy because there are lots of unforeseen conditions that can lead to soaring of interest rates. If there is a certain IRA account holder who is locked in a specific interest rate and that interest will continue to rise, that holder will absolutely lose a huge sum of earnings.

What permits an investor to successfully earn a variable rate of interest is the IRA accumulation of variable rate. If ever a long-term savings plan's interest rates are truly flexible in this context they can absolutely change at any moment. With regards to the accumulation of the earnings, it will just solely depend on luck. When the interest rates are definitely low because the investor will not be trapped with the equal low rate, of interest, this is the very ideal kind of option. Aside from that, this is also a very unpredictable process. With the interest rate that is fixed, the certain investor will be sure of their returns. The variable rate will certainly be a gamble.

Yes, there are some other options of gaining the best interest rates but the variable and fixed IRA are the most famous. These rates always change and they depend on the specific financial institution. So, investors are always advised to identify that a fund can have a variety of returns when they are considered with the other suppliers of retirement plan.

"The Midnight House" Holds Terrorists For Interrogation

You would not want to be in The Midnight House! It is a location where the CIA and other various high security agencies kept their worst terrorists. It is not known except by those that are using it for all types of interrogation including torture of the worst means. Of course it is not known since the United States does not torture those they interrogate! When you read the things that these terrorists performed you might feel The Midnight House is very necessary, like it or not.

This story will take you to many of the areas of the world in which the free world is fighting today to rid the world of the worst terrorists. It takes you on raids and actions including both sides of the war on terror and then takes you in the cells, or whatever you wish to call their walls of imprisonment, to suffer what the prisoners and the interrogators do through time, telling their daily routines while they play mind games with each other.

John Wells had been an agent but needed time off to recover from the rigors of the extreme work these agents perform. John was on a mountain climbing trek when he received a call from his immediate boss, Ellis Shafer requesting that John was desperately needed at work. Reluctantly, John returned to the dangerous grueling work. The agency heads were too secretive about all the things going on in the "prison camps" such as Midnight House was, but needed help finding some terrorists as well as CIA missing agents. Shafer and Wells left after obtaining all the possible information heading for Pakistan, Egypt, and surrounding areas. Wells went into deep cover traveling to and while in the area. Wells was as tough as anyone, mentally or physically, but was he ready for all he would suffer, learn, and observe?

Sometimes in each others company and sometimes not they carried out their mission getting into trouble with local authorities and enemy combatants several times. Their life was hard while they pried into the lives and actions of the agents that were in or had been in the area. Some had disappeared from plain sight. A unit called 673 had secretly been formed for the area and Shafer and Wells were to search for the group, if any were left, and the past members that had disappeared from the face of the earth. Some of the searches led back to Washington, DC and the heads of the involved agencies. How far to go and how far to open cans of worms to their sources?

An excellent spy book as John Well's returns in another one of Alex Berenson's books. Wells ex-love life was a part also. He had a hard time getting Exley out of his mind but she was out of the picture as far as Wells figured. You will not be disappointed as you read and travel to "The Midnight House."

How to Make Beef Barley Vegetable Soup

During the cold winter months, I like to make a lot of homemade soups and stews for my family. This recipe was given to me by my best friend 10 years ago and it was her grandmother's recipe.

Since my family only consists of 4 family members, I will make the recipe and we will eat half of the soup for dinner that night. I will freeze the other half in a freezer container for a future meal. If you are freezing any of the soup, make sure you leave a 1/2" head space in your freezer container to allow for expansion during the freezing process. The soup will keep for up to 9 months in your freezer.

Beef Barley Vegetable Soup

1 1/2 lbs. lean ground beef

6 cups tap water

3 beef bouillon cubes

2 cups carrots, sliced

1 1/2 cups onions, coarsely chopped

1 1/2 cups celery, coarsely chopped

1/2 cup green pepper, chopped

1/3 cup barley

1 teaspoon table salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

2 bay leaves

1/4 cup catsup

28 ounce can crushed tomatoes with juice

8 ounce can tomato sauce

Note: You can substitute the beef bouillon cubes with 3 teaspoons of instant beef bouillon if desired.

In a large frying pan, brown your lean ground beef until it's no longer pink. Drain the grease and set aside. In a large 5 quart stock pot, combine all of the above ingredients together in the order that they are given in the recipe. Bring soup to a full boil and then reduce heat and simmer for approximately 60-70 minutes. (or until the vegetables are tender.) Remove bay leaves before serving.

This recipe will yield approximately 10 servings.

I Can't Pay My Loan - Student Guidelines for Recovery

You graduated and now your student loan is due. The job hasn't come through yet, or you are just in over your head. What can you do about that student loan?

Before you enter the default stage, relax and review your options. Realize that you aren't alone. Unfortunately, since so many former students default on their loans each year, the Department of Education has a well-oiled process of collecting payments from those who default.

If you just stop paying, or never begin making payments when they are due, you can expect the Department of Education to take action to collect your student loan. There are several drawbacks to procrastinating. First, they will add substantial collection fees to your outstanding balance. You owe enough already, but they are going to want extra to track you down and force you to pay.

The IRS works closely with the Department of Education, and they'll take any tax refund that you might be due. That's right, they'll turn it over to the Department of Education without a second thought.

Finally, once you do get a job, they can garnish your wages. Not only will they get the collection fees and hit your take home pay, but your employer will know you defaulted on your loans as well.

If you default, your credit will be damaged. This will prevent you from getting the best available financing deals, a mortgage and possibly even a job.

Want to avoid all that hassle? First, realize that you do have options. Shirking your responsibilities should be the last option. Contact an Ombudsman at the Department of Education (877-577-2575). Review your options and choose one that you can live with.

You may be able to defer your loans. This program allows you to defer, or put off, payments on principal, interest or both under some conditions. If you're out of work but looking for a job, experiencing a financial hardship or going back to school you may be able to put off paying for awhile. You must apply and be approved, so be proactive and request the paperwork from your lender before you find yourself in default.

Most loans have a provision for cancellation. However, canceling a student loan is very difficult. If you meet one of the requirements you can apply for a cancellation by completing a form provided by your lender. Some of the qualifications include total disability, either permanent or temporary, death, providing instruction or other services to needy populations or entering a rehabilitation program for your disability. Serving in one of the armed forces may also allow you to cancel your student loans under certain circumstances. Cancellations are hard to obtain and will always require documentation of your condition or situation.

If you find yourself in extreme circumstances, student loans can be discharged through certain types of bankruptcy. However, you must be able to prove that if you repaid the loan you would suffer severe financial difficulty, and most student loans can only be discharged through Chapter 13 bankruptcies in which you must repay a portion of your debt (usually pennies on the dollar).

Whatever your situation, deal with your student loan problem before it enters default. Whatever choice you make, don't ignore the problem. It won't go away, it'll only get bigger. 7 Laws Of The Linguistic Mind

Improving your Linguistic powers does not necessarily mean getting an iron-firm grasp on your language. You do not need to be a master of literature or a politician. Remember the key is to communicate your ideas clearly, effectively and to sway your audience in your direction. There is no use in speaking perfect Mandarin to a small group of elderly citizens in a small rural town in China, that uses dialects anyway. There are combination of key attributes you need to pay attention to in order to sharpen your Linguistic Mind. Here we present to you what we like to call the 7 Laws Of The Linguistic Mind.

1) Open your Eyes & Ears This is a key attribute of NLP hynotherapists & politicians. They are sensitive to how others speak as well as subtle changes in language patterns. Verbal or otherwise. The very first rule is to pay close attention to your audience and know about what interests them to give them enough reason in the first place to listen to you. Know when to speak & when to listen and observe. And when you do remember to speak in their language. You have a better chance at selling to a hungry crowd of buyers than strollers.

2) Persuade & Sell The expert salesperson will absolutely have this skill refined tenfold. There are many ways to persuade and influence your audience towards your direction. First is to sell yourself. The salesperson would probably offer a free voucher as a gift token first, to exploit the fact that humans by nature are compelled to return kind favours. They they go on to state on how limited the offer is: To provoke a sense of rarity in their product and make the potential buyer feel like he/she just found the jackpot. All this with professional fluid speech & persuasive language would give you powerful persuasion skills.

3) Argue & Impact This is probably the anti-version of the second law. Being able to argue effectively can purge your conscious mind from entering a passive state when someone is trying to persuade or sell you something. Bluffs like saying you just saw that same product at a cheaper price from a nearby store can put a salesperson off their feet. It can expand your mind into being able to be more critical & anaytical in generating its own points of view. However it is oftentimes more important to have this skill when you want to convince a stubborn individual towards a more rational view.

4) Emotion In just about any presentation you are about to give mixing in the correct words & gestures to invoke feeling in your audience/the other person is absolutely vital. This creates a kind of bonding between you and your audience, thus making them feel you have been in their shoes & understand their situation. Breaking the touch barrier is another technique to create the bonding. This is a key component in communicating new ideas.

5) Use tools at your disposal If you can dress the part, do it. Business workers put on fine suits to project a professional image when selling their products/ideas. The first impression you make is important even during job interviews. When salespeople advertise their product they would sometimes give a demonstration or even a free sample. Technology such as the Internet can be used to farm for new information & study the competition while you present your own ideas. Tools can be used to make people gravitate towards you and hear what you have to say.

6) Pounce on the Opportunity Opportunities can be far and few in between. Therefore whenever it comes your way, whether it is a chance to learn new things or to communicate your story, go out and seize the day before it passes by.

7) Personal Log Adopting this famous practice can bring great benefits to an individual. The log can be a simple journal on paperback or a blog on your laptop, and can be in the form of written, audio/video/images or a mix. Having a personal log can allow you to track your own progress in your daily routines & preserve special moments and triumphs in your life.

Interview with Roger Leslie, Author of "Success Express for Teens"

It's a real pleasure to have with us Roger Leslie as he speaks about how teens, if they really want something in their lives, their dreams can become reality if they follow the step-by-step plan. Welcome to Reader Views.

Irene: Hi Roger. Sounds like you have a real winner in "Success Express for Teens: 50 Activities that will change your life." Wow, 50 things that teens can actually do without getting bored? Convince us.

Roger: Each activity in the book is no more than two or three pages long and covers everything from finding your personal strengths and setting a goal to watching a cartoon or picking a dream theme song. Although the activities work independently, readers are actually building toward something big, exciting and self-revealing by activity #50.

Irene: What are the first few activities that you propose to get the teens excited about continuing. They must be something great to have them hooked to continue.

Roger: Before people can move forward, they have to assess where they are right now. The first activities are quick reviews of what has brought them joy in the past. Activity #1 invites them to reminisce about happy childhood memories. #2 lets them recap what kinds of activities and projects they do now that bring them satisfaction. From there, they can then figure out what tools will help them most in creating the most fulfilling future.

Irene: What inspired you to write this book?

Roger: When I was teaching high school students, I realized that I could give them all the tools to be successful no matter that they wanted to pursue in life. I built these activities into my curriculum and worked on them daily honed them with my students until it turned into a polished plan to help all readers find their passion and realize even their most far-reaching dreams.

Irene: Your writing style appeals to teens. Tell us how you capture their attention through your writing, as well as your speaking with them.

Roger: I've been working with teens for twenty years and I really relate to them. They may be new to adulthood, but they are young adults. I talk to them as I would any adult--I assume up front that they have intelligence and that their opinions matter. I don't want them to live their life the way it works for me. I want to help them figure out what works best for them.

Irene: Does being a teen at heart help to communicate with them?

Roger: I believe seeing everyone as an individual, no matter what their age, brings out the best in both of us. But, yes, feeling some youthful enthusiasm for life is essential to reaching young people. They, more than anyone, need to have their hopes affirmed. Being a teen at heart supports that effort soundly.

Irene: "Success Express for Teens" is also a workbook. Explain to us what type of assignments you give.

Roger: I wanted the book to be action-oriented so readers could start making progress immediately. Some activities invite teens to reflect on their past to figure out what stirs their passion. Others require taking a specific action, such as doing something kind for themselves, or creating a Life Board to make a visual image of who they are and what they want. I made sure I included activities for all learning styles and personalities.

Irene: When you speak of learning styles, would you please explain to us what that means.

Roger: Some of us learn by observing, some by listening and some by doing. I encourage all types of learning in the activities so those who see, hear and do can all make progress as they use the activities to create success.

Irene: Since you incorporate the various learning styles into your workbook, there obviously are styles that don't work for all. How do you make the activities fun, exciting, and enticing to those that don't learn in that particular style?

Roger: Teens build momentum toward the climactic Activity #50 by rating each activity. Inviting readers to decide how much they enjoyed doing each activity gives them the freedom to start realizing that not every strategy has to work for everyone. In other self-help books for teens, I noticed that the authors often assume that what works for one person should work for everyone. In Success Express, teens do the activities in part to sample what works for them so they can continue doing more of what moves them toward their goals and less of what holds them back.

Irene: You advocate having fun. How do you convince a teenager, who at any given moment changes their view, perspective, and attitude, that being a student can be fun.

Roger: By honoring their individuality. No matter what their responsibilities or interests, they can have fun with what they're doing once they understand that they alone have the power to create joy and excitement in any situation. It's not what they're doing but the attitude they create about what they're doing that makes any moment fun.

Irene: That's a pretty big "understanding" for a teen that is fluctuating between blaming the establishment one minute, and taking the responsibility for their own power the next. How do you convince the teens that they alone have the power over their own attitude?

Roger: Teens are hungry for that power. After all, discovering it gives them the independence they desire but may not yet know how to handle. The key for adults is not to convince teens that they have the power, as they already sense it even if they're not fully expressing it, but to model for them how to use their power responsibly. When we're responsible for ourselves and respectful of others' needs and wants as well, we can make sound decisions that keep us out of the dangers come teens sometimes meet by making reckless choices.

Irene: We all know that goals are import and that we need to have them to move forward in life. What suggestion do you have for teens that is different from adult goal setting?

Roger: Take your lifelong dream and slice it into small pieces that you can start working on immediately. The biggest mistake that teens make is to imagine starting on the goal on some unspecified time in the future. Fulfillment doesn't start in the future. It begins now.

Irene: Your book is about self-exploration. Many teens may not respond to your suggestions due to various reasons. What would be some of the main reasons that they may not be interested in your book?

Roger: Teens are hungry for that power. After all, discovering it gives them the independence they desire but may not yet know how to handle. The key for adults is not to convince teens that they have the power, as they already sense it even if they're not fully expressing it, but to model for them how to use their power responsibly. When we're responsible for ourselves and respectful of others' needs and wants as well, we can make sound decisions that keep us out of the dangers come teens sometimes meet by making reckless choices.

Irene: Of course, we as adults often need to redefine "work" also. How difficult is it for teens to redefine when the core belief in the home is that work is difficult, work is necessary, work is hard, you have to work long hours, basically all those clichés that are centered around "work" ?

Roger: One beautiful aspect of books is that they open our minds to new ideas. If teens live in a household where work is drudgery, then reading the redefine "work" activity might invite them to realize that they can choose to look at the entire idea of work another way. In each activity, I emphasize a section called "What's in it for me?" In that area, I go beyond suggesting the activity and explain why it's worth trying. In Redefine "Work," I share with readers how everything, from playing ball to getting up in the morning, is a form of work. Choosing the work we do and how much excellence we strive for in it makes the difference between someone who loves work and meets with success and someone who feels drained by it and consistently encounters failure.

Irene: How do you propose that parents or educators take on the task of getting the teens interested?

Roger: The book, which uses an analogy of an express train to build momentum and speed toward your dreams, is a self-directed journey. Giving teens the space and time to pursue their dreams independently appeals to many. For those that need more support and direction, I've included an appendix to help parents, teachers, counselors and other group leaders guide teens through many of the activities.

Irene: It seems to me that parents also need to take responsibility in encouraging and teaching their teens with long term planning. What pointers do you give to parents that would help them teach the teens?

Roger: Model success strategies. I have many adults who buy this book for themselves and do the activities to fulfill their own dreams. Telling teens to do something or even giving them convincing reasons why they should is never as powerful a motivator as showing by example the strengths and benefits derived from going after what you believe will make you happy. Consistently strive to be successful and happy yourself and teens will learn by what you model.

Irene: When it comes to giving direction in life-skills or life-goals, do the teens respond better to an educator, or a speaker like you, rather than their parents? And, why?

Roger: Teens will respond to anyone they believe is genuine. A do-what-I-say-and-not-what-I-do adult holds no credibility. Teens are very perceptive. They know which adults genuinely have their best interest in mind. When adults come from a position of respecting teens and striving to give them tools so that they can help themselves succeed, then teens will respond, whether that adult is an educator, a speaker or a parent.

Irene: I can see that you have found what works for teens - bottom like is "respect" for them. Thank you very much Roger, this has been a very interesting interview. Is there anything else that you would like to tell us about your book or yourself?

Roger: I'm thankful that Bayou Publishing has been as committed to helping teens as I am. They've supported my efforts to travel to schools, churches and organizations to share my message with teens and children everywhere. For me, one of the greatest joys of journeying through life is connecting with people along the way. So thanks, Irene, for a great interview. It's been a joy.
